Born and raised here. It's a a smaller city city with about 48,547 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Cedar Hill sits at 202.6 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Anyone in a similar situation?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 54, moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Greenfield and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The weather situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The dating scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
