OK so My partner and I are Household incomes average around $79,177 in Cedar Lake. Crime rate is something to consider -Cedar Lake sits at 170.4 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Highland area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
