Living in Cedar Rapids — the reality

Hey folks, Median household income is $67,859, which feels about average for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Thoughts? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
