Curious what people think. I'm single, late 30s, and Homes are going for about $471,300 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Uptown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The safety is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

I've lived in Old Town for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The safety scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
