Centerville is underrated, change my mind

I relocated for work and It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I overthinking this? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- The school system scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (East) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
