Homes are going for about $300,500 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Austin about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
