Couple moving to Central Islip from out of state

Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $110,166 in Central Islip. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.
