OK so With a population of 29,603, Central is a smaller city. Median household income is $90,091, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $90,091 in Central. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (South) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
