Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2016. Homes are going for about $81,600 on average. You can expect to pay around $775 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for family and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The food scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in marketing here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much reasonable but now it's excellent.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.
