Hey, Born and raised here. Median household income is $65,952, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- The walkability scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..
