Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. Median household income is $76,862, which feels about average for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 48,918 people. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've lived in West for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- The community vibe scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..
