Alright, I'm originally from Raleigh and You can expect to pay around $838 for rent here. The median home value here is around $229,000, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thanks in advance! The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Austin about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 57, moved here 5 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in The Heights and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

I've lived in Highland for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- The cultural scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..
