Hey folks, The median home value here is around $407,900, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,775/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is solid.
