Rent vs buy in Chamblee -what makes sense?

Hey, I work in marketing and Crime rate is something to consider -Chamblee sits at 1,071.5 per 100K. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $1,775 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Does this match your experience? Thanks for reading. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Italian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to San Diego it's underrated.
