Best hidden gems in Champaign

First post here. Poverty rate is 9.1%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..
