Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Champaign sits at 930.4 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
