Is Champaign walkable?

First post here. Military spouse here. It's a a smaller city city with about 88,822 people. Median household income is $57,544, which feels about average for the area. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 12 years. Moved from Baltimore for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is decent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Far from beaches/mountains. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a contractor and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.

I've lived in Sunset for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The pet-friendliness scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..
