Things Champaign needs to improve

Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,103 for rent here. With a population of 88,822, Champaign is a smaller city. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Appreciate any input. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Chicago about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.
