First time home buyer in Champion Heights

Hey everyone, I'm retired and Rent is about $856/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $69,688 in Champion Heights. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cheers. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I work in construction here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the South side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The weather scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
