Been meaning to ask this. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The dating scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Midtown for 2 years. Moved from Charlotte for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited entertainment options. And cost of living can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
