My partner and I are Rent is about $1,202/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 4.4%, which is about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely better than expected and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (South) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The food scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The public transit is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
