Random thought, Rent is about $1,632/month for a decent place. With a population of 152K, Charleston is a mid-size city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great. Cheers. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in East for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The housing market scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
