Job hunting in Charleston — tips?

Hey everyone, Been living here since 2006. Average temperature is around 67°F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $1,632/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $469,100, which is pretty steep. With a population of 152K, Charleston is a mid-size city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. TIA! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much pricey but now it's decent.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 9 years. Moved from Baltimore for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Dating scene is rough. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
