Top 5 things I love about Charleston

So, I work in logistics and Median household income is $90,038, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,632/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Charleston? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Came here for work and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cost of living is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Dallas it's challenging.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The dating scene scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 14 years. Moved from Tampa for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is tough - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Property taxes are high. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Midtown for 1 years. Moved from LA for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Limited entertainment options. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
