Curious what people think. Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $469,100, which is pretty steep. With a population of 152K, Charleston is a mid-size city. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
