So, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 9.4%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance! Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Denver about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The weather scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
