The median home value here is around $448,400, which is pretty steep. With a population of 45,863, Charlottesville is a smaller city. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What are your go-to spots? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Raleigh about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
