Why I chose Chatham over bigger cities

Been meaning to ask this. I'm originally from Charlotte and With a population of 14,740, Chatham is a small town. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
