Hey folks, Rent is about $1,155/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 12.4%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a HR manager and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
