Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider — Chattanooga sits at 1,070.1 per 100K. With a population of 183K, Chattanooga is a mid-size city. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (West) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Diego it's decent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 13 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..
