Hey folks, It's a a smaller city city with about 76,251 people. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $66,293 in Cheektowaga. With a population of 76,251, Cheektowaga is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $169,200, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
Pros:
- Good job market
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 37, moved here 4 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The weather situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Portland about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..
