The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Winters are long and cold. And community vibe can be frustrating.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 26, moved here 3 years ago from Portland. I've lived in West and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas

3. Diverse dining options

1. Rising rent and home prices

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
