Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. Homes are going for about $330,300 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,075 for rent here. Median household income is $47,039, which feels on the lower side for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The safety is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 7 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Fairview for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is decent
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Moved here from Nashville about 3 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to weather but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much developing but now it's decent.
