Honest thoughts on life in Cheney

Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Cheney sits at 308.7 per 100K. Rent is about $1,075/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. The median home value here is around $330,300, which seems about average. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Maple Ridge area are tough. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in North for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
