Moving to Cheney with kids -good idea?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 52-year-old firefighter and Homes are going for about $330,300 on average. The unemployment rate is 8.1%, which is concerning. It's a a small town city with about 12,830 people. The median home value here is around $330,300, which seems about average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Denver about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
