Unpopular opinion about Cheraw

Alright, Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 27.8%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 8.2%, which is concerning. You can expect to pay around $806 for rent here. Household incomes average around $27,275 in Cheraw. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Cheraw? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Highland area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 11 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
