Hey everyone, Just moved here 15 months ago and Poverty rate is 5.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 14,575, Cherryland is a small town. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 45, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Meadowbrook area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.
