Best things about Chesapeake that nobody talks about

As a 5-year resident, here are some things about Chesapeake that don't make it into the guides:

1. There are amazing hiking trails 20 min from downtown
2. The library system is phenomenal
3. The local craft beer scene is legit

Happy to answer questions.

My kids love it here. So many parks and activities. Great value for the money.

I work in manufacturing and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 4 months.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is check out the local Facebook groups for neighborhood info. Makes a big difference.

Coming from Houston, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Old Town and Riverside are perfectly safe.

I've lived in Northside for 11 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 2 years and my experience is very similar.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Respectfully disagree about the job market. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.
