Is Chesapeake getting better or worse?

Hey everyone, I work in food service and Median household income is $94,189, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 251K, Chesapeake is a mid-size city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for Chesapeake? Thanks! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
