Hi all, Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,523/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $94,189 in Chesapeake. The median home value here is around $359,100, which seems about average. Median household income is $94,189, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in The Heights area are average. Kids love it here.
