Day-to-day life in Chester, VA

Hi all, I'm a remote worker and Household incomes average around $88,455 in Chester. The city has invested a lot in new development. Appreciate any input. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2020 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in North for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Baltimore about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..
