Moving to Chestnut Ridge -what should I know?

I'm a college student here and Median household income is $113,750, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $668,000, which is pretty steep. With a population of 10,464, Chestnut Ridge is a small town. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Should I be concerned? Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
