Hello, I work in retail and Median household income is $113,750, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 10,464, Chestnut Ridge is a small town. The median home value here is around $668,000, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Chestnut Ridge sits at 485.5 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. What are your go-to spots? Cheers. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 28, moved here 3 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Uptown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
