Thinking about relocating to Chestnut Ridge from Portland

It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What would you do? TIA!

I've lived in Uptown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- The housing market scene is solid

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the East side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a accountant and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 24, moved here 2 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Old Town and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The dating scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
