Hey everyone, We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 4.9%, which is about average. Rent is about $878/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Fairview) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (South) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Italian places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..
