Housing market in Cheyenne right now

Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $311,200, which seems about average. With a population of 64,976, Cheyenne is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I wrong here? Appreciate any input. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 33, moved here 2 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Eastside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The job market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Downtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
