What I wish I knew before living in Chicago Heights
First post here. We're a young couple and It's a a smaller city city with about 26,938 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Chicago Heights sits at 773.6 per 100K. The median home value here is around $149,900, which is actually reasonable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.
Pros:
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Am I overthinking this? Any help is appreciated. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.
