I got a job offer in Chicago, IL and I'm seriously considering the move. I'm coming from a large city. A few questions:
1. Which neighborhoods should I look at for a $1100-1700 budget?
2. How's the commute situation?
3. Is the crime as bad as the stats suggest?
4. Any hidden costs I should know about?
Thanks in advance!

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Oakwood and Maple Heights are perfectly safe.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is check out the local Facebook groups for neighborhood info. Makes a big difference.

Moved here last year. No regrets. So many outdoor activities.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Rent tip: look for places in winter. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 10 years and my experience is very similar.

If you can afford it, Oakwood is the best place to live. Period.
