Quick question about Chicago

I'm a teacher here and With a population of 2.7M, Chicago is a major city. Crime rate is something to consider — Chicago sits at 943.2 per 100K. Household incomes average around $75,134 in Chicago. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Is this normal for Chicago? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Boston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

I work in hospitality here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The dating scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
