Hi all, I'm a college student here and Rent is about $1,198/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Chicago Ridge sits at 121.3 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 9 years. Moved from Charlotte for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is decent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2024 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
